Decadent Moist Caramel Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce from above
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions:

For the Cake:

1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.

6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
